Babette Semmer
Babette Semmer (1989, London, UK) lives and works in Berlin. She studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and at the Städelschule in the class of Amy Sillman and Monika Bär in Frankfurt. Her work has been exhibited at Kunstverein Bonn and Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt, at Setareh in Berlin and at Gao Gallery in London amongst other venues.
Babette Semmer's practice is informed by the traditions of portraiture, genre painting, caricature and comics. She combines (auto-)biographical, popular and archaic imagery with tropes and clichés from the history of art.
